LARAMIE, Wyo. - Utah State lost an 84-65 decision at Wyoming on Saturday afternoon as the Cowboys made a school-record 20 3-point shots to seal the win. The loss dropped the Aggies to 11-11 on the year and 3-8 in the Mountain West, while Wyoming moved to 12-13 and 5-7 with the win.
USU was led in scoring by junior wing Jalen Moore with 17 points and he was joined in double figures by senior guard Chris Smith with 13, and redshirt freshman forward Quinn Taylor with 10. As a team, Utah State shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) from the floor, 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from behind the 3-point line and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the free throw line.
Wyoming was led by four players in double figures, including junior guard Jason McManamen with 20, senior guard Josh Adams with 19, and sophomore forward Alan Herndon and sophomore guard Jeremy Lieberman with 12 apiece. The Cowboys finished the game shooting 50.0 percent (28-of-56) from the floor, 52.6 percent (20-of-38) from behind the 3-point line and 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line.
Utah State was down at the intermission, 38-37, as Wyoming was strong behind the 3-point line over the opening 20 minutes, making 10 of its 13 field goals from long range. However, the Aggies were able to keep the game within reach, closing out the half by converting 10 of its last 12 shots.
The offensive momentum didn't carry over for the Aggies after the break as Utah State converted just 1-of-14 from the floor over the first nine minutes of the final half. The lull opened a 20-point cushion for Wyoming, 62-40, with 11:01 on the clock. The Aggies finished the game 9-of-13 from the floor, and outscored the Cowboys 25-22, but ultimately lost the 84-65 decision.
Utah State will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb.9, hosting New Mexico in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 8 p.m. and can be seen live on the CBS Sports Network.
