Utah State softball opened its final road series of the season Friday, falling to San Diego State, 5-4.

Senior Noelle Johnson made the start in the circle Friday, pitching 4.2 innings before being relieved by freshman Katie Schroeder. Together, the pair allowed 10 hits while striking out one batter apiece. Offensively, the Aggies were led by junior second baseman Kylie-Rose Dickson who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

"We didn't have the right attitude coming into the game tonight, and it affected everything. We did some good things at the plate with the bottom of the order, but we have to get more production out of the middle of our lineup," said USU head coach Steve Johnson. "Unfortunately, we gave up another big inning in the fifth after we had taken the lead. This is the fourth time in our last five games where we've given up four or five runs, all with two outs, in one inning. We have to have a shutdown mentality after the offense rallies and we get two outs."

With the loss, Utah State falls to 24-22 on the year with a 10-9 record in Mountain West play. The Aztecs improve to 25-19 overall, with a 7-9 league ledger.

It took time for both teams to get going offensively, Friday night. After two-and-a-half scoreless innings, San Diego State was first on the board with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the third. The Aggies were unable to answer until the top of the fifth, but then took the lead.

With her second home run of the week, and her career, Dickson put USU on the board with a two-run blast over the right field fence. With Saucedo on base with a single, she scored on Dickson's hit to take the lead. Sophomore outfielder Jazmin Clarke was next on base, reaching on an Aztec error. She then stole second and was able to score on a single from senior outfielder Sarah Chow.

USU's lead didn't last long though, as the Aztecs came back with another four runs in the bottom of the inning. With a runner on third, a single put SDSU back within one. A fielder's choice and another single put runners on the corners, the Aztecs added a three-run home run to go back on top.

The Aggies would add one last run on the night in the top of the sixth. Junior shortstop Sarina Jaramillo was first on base that inning with a double down the right field line. Senior catcher Kirstyn Namba followed with a double of her own to score Jaramillo, but the top half of the inning ended on a groundout. The Aztecs changed pitchers for the seventh inning, as the Aggies got one hit in before the game came to a close.

The series at San Diego State will continue in a 7 p.m. (MT) game on Saturday, April 30. The weekend finale is set for Sunday, May 1, at 1 p.m. (MT).
