It took an additional eight minutes of playing time, but Utah State soccer opened its weekend of competition in a 1-0 win at Air Force Friday.

Junior forward Wesley Hamblin scored the sole goal of the night, scoring in the 98th minute. This was Hamblin's fifth goal of the season, which now ties for the lead spot for the Aggies. Additionally, it washer second game-winning golden goal of the year, as she secured USU's win against Gonzaga. Junior forward Bailee Hammond assisted on Hamblin's goal, her fourth assist of the year.

With the win, Utah State improves to 7-4-0 overall this season, while remaining undefeated in conference play at 3-0-0. Air Force falls to 5-4-1 on the year and 1-2-0 in Mountain West action.

On the night, Utah State out-shot Air Force, 15-11, including a 10-6 on-goal advantage. Redshirt sophomore Grace McGuire played the full match in the net for the Aggies, earning her fourth shutout of the year while adding six saves to her season total.

The teams battled through the first 90 minutes of play, but neither was able to capitalize on its opportunities. Both sides traded possession back-and-forth, having solid chances on each offensive end, while performing well defensively to stop the other.

Over the last 20 minutes of the second half, both defenses stepped it up, as several fouls were called against both teams. Hamblin was issued a yellow card in the 88th minute of play, the first card given to an Aggie this season. When neither team had scored by the end of regulation, the teams headed to extra time, the second overtime games of the year for both programs.

Utah State and Air Force continued to figAfter a foul was called on an Air Force player, freshman defender Mealii Enos took a free kick for the team near the midfield line. Hammond won the ball in the air at the top of the box, heading it to Hamblin's feet. From there, Hamblin got control on a single touch, tapping the ball into the net to win the match.

Utah State will remain in Colorado Springs for the weekend, as the Aggies continue conference competition at Colorado College on Sunday, Oct. 2. Utah State will take on the Tigers at Noon.
