Jan. 18, 2017 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis senior Jack Swindells has been named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through Jan. 17, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Overall, it is the first time this season and in his career Swindells has earned MW Player of the Week honors.
Swindells, a senior from Towradgi, Australia, posted a 3-1 overall record last week to guide Utah State to a 1-1 road record with a 6-1 win against UC Irvine and a 6-1 loss at San Diego. Against the Anteaters, Swindells won in straight sets at the No. 2 spot (6-2, 6-4) after teaming up with sophomore Jonas Maier for a 6-4 win at the first doubles position. Against the Toreros, Swindells posted USU's lone point with a three-set win at the No. 2 spot (6-7 (3), 6-4, 10-5). In doubles, Swindells and Maier fell at the first position. Utah State's win against UC Irvine was the first in program history, as USU was 0-4 against the Anteaters prior to last weekend.
Utah State men's tennis action continues this weekend with a trio of matches in the Pacific Northwest, beginning at Washington on Friday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. (MT).
