Utah State soccer concluded its 2017 campaign Friday, as the Aggies dropped the regular season finale to Boise State, 2-1, at home.

Utah State ends its season with a 9-7-3 overall record, including a 4-5-2 Mountain West ledger. The loss will keep the Aggies out of the 2017 Mountain West Championships, as the team will finish out of the top six in the conference standings. Boise State moves to 12-5-3 on the year and 7-2-2 in conference play.

The Aggies controlled the match early on, dominating the offensive opportunities in the first minutes. That control paid off quickly, as Utah State got on the board in the 15th minute of play. Junior defender Jaylen Hinckley fed the ball to freshman midfielder Ashley Cardozo who made her way through a pair of defenders with some fancy footwork. She then crossed the ball from the top corner of the box, bending the shot behind the Boise State goalkeeper and into the net.

Unfortunately for the Aggies, the Broncos responded well to the goal and scored the equalizer less than a minute later. After the kick-off, Boise State and conference leading scorer Raimee Sherle received a long pass and out-ran the Utah State defense for an open shot to score her 16th goal of the year.

The teams fought back-and-forth for the remainder of the first half, trading possessions and shots. The Broncos had the last say of the half though, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 41st minute. When a pass was flicked over from the top corner of the box, McKenna Kynett was there to head it in and give Boise State the lead.

The Broncos took control in the second half, spreading out and effectively shutting down the USU offense. Both teams subbed frequently through that second period to keep legs fresh, while Utah State also switched up its formation to try and find the attack. The Aggies were able to regain a little bit of control in the final minutes of the match, creating a couple of opportunities on setpieces, but could not find the back of the net again.

On the day, Utah State out-shot Boise State, 14-10, while both teams had six shots on goal. Cobb played the full match, picking up four saves.
