LOGAN, Utah - Utah State freshman midfielder Ashley Cardozo has been named to the United Soccer Coaches all-West Region second team, as announced by the organization Tuesday.
The United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) announced three teams in each of the five regions comprised of NCAA Division I soccer programs. Cardozo is one of seven student-athletes from the Mountain West to be recognized. Additionally, she is one of seven freshmen to earn a spot on either of the three West Region teams.
Cardozo is the sixth player in Utah State history to earn all-region honors, joining the most recent accolade in junior defender Kelsey Andersen, who earned third-team honors a year ago. She is just the second Aggie to be named to the second team or higher, along with Shantel Flanary, who was a two-time second-team honoree.
This season, Cardozo led the Aggies with nine goals and was second on the team with six assists. Her 24 total points make her the second-highest scoring freshman in program history and the highest since 1999. Her nine goals tie for 10th on the single-season record list, while her 37 shots on goal also give her a 10th-place ranking.
The Aggies finished the 2017 season with a 9-7-3 record, while going 4-5-2 in Mountain West play.
