March 29, 2017 LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis senior Jack Swindells has been named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through March 28, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Overall, it is the second time this season and in his career Swindells has earned MW Player of the Week honors.
For the Aggies, it is the sixth time this year a USU tennis player has won the award in the 11 weeks it has been given out. Swindells' two awards this year matches junior Jaime Barajas and sophomore Samuel Serrano.
Last week, Swindells, a senior from Towradgi, Australia, won both his singles and doubles matches in helping Utah State to a 4-1 MW home win against San Diego State. In doubles, Swindells teamed up with sophomore Jonas Maier for a 6-1 win at the second position to set the tone for the match. Then, Swindells clinched the dual match win with a come-from-behind, three-set victory at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. It was his first match-clinching victory this year. The win avenged USU's lone Mountain West regular season loss last year against the Aztecs, a 4-3 decision in San Diego.
The Aggies are back in action this weekend when they travel to face conference rival UNLV on Sunday, April 2 at Noon.
