LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball third baseman Amee Aarhus has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 30.

This is Aarhus' first-career Mountain West Player of the Week award.

Aarhus (Camas, Wash.) led Utah State to a 2-1 Mountain West home record last week against San Diego State (W 4-2, W 4-1, L 5-15 (5)). In the series opener, Aarhus was 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring one run and adding an RBI with a sac fly. She also had one putout and three assists in the win. In the second game of the series, Aarhus again went 2-of-3 at the plate, with one RBI and a sac bunt, while adding three defensive assists. In the series finale, Aarhus was 2-of-3 offensively, with three defensive assists. On the week, Aarhus hit a team-high .667 (6-of-9) with one run scored and one RBI, along with two sacrifice hits. Defensively, she tallied nine assists and one putout.

"This is a great honor for Amee, as well as for our program," said USU head coach Steve Johnson. "Amee had a great weekend helping us win the series against San Diego State."

This is the seventh overall conference weekly award given to an Aggie player this season, which continues to extend the program record. Aarhus is the fifth different USU player to receive the award, joining Victoria Saucedo, Sarina Jaramillo, Riley Plogger and Kellie White. The previous best was three awards, given by the Big West in both the 1993 and 2001 seasons.

Utah State (32-12, 14-6 MW) is set to play its final Mountain West series of the season this week, as the team travels to San José State (32-15, 12-6 MW). The Aggies and Spartans will begin the series on Friday May 5, at 1 p.m. (MT), followed by single games on Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, at 1 p.m. and noon (MT), respectively.
