LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer (2-9-0, 1-3-0 MW) is set to open a four-match road swing this weekend as the Aggies play at San Diego State (4-7-1, 2-1-1 MW) on Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. (MT).
All regular-season home and Mountain West matches will continue to be broadcast as a USU Athletics Production on the Mountain West Network. All video feeds will be available live and in archive form at utahstateaggies.com/watch. Live stats and play-by-play information will be available through SIDEARM, while updates will also be provided through the team's social media outlets. Links to each option will be available online prior to every match.
San Diego State opens the weekend with a 4-7-1 record, including a 2-1-1 ledger in Mountain West play. Last week, the Aztecs split a pair of road matches, defeating San José State, 1-0, before falling to Fresno State, 2-1. The Aztec offense is led by freshman forward Taylor Moorehead and sophomore midfielder Phoebe Leitch who have each scored two goals this season. Additionally, three different players have each recorded a pair of assists. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Gabby English has played the full season in the net for San Diego State, tallying 59 saves while allowing 18 goals.
San Diego State claimed the Mountain West Tournament title, earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Mike Friesen is in his 12th season as the head coach at San Diego State, where he has an overall record of 138-79-30. All-time, Utah State is 0-6-1 against the Aztecs. The only draw of the series came in San Diego in 2010.
For the Aggies, freshman forward Sara Noel leads the team with four goals on the season, while sophomore midfielder Ashley Cardozo has two assists. Senior goalkeeper Grace McGuire has played the majority of time in the net, tallying 40 saves and allowing 15 goals.
