LOGAN, Utah -
Utah State javelin thrower Sindri Gudmundsson has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, March 18, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the first time this year and fourth time in Gudmundsson's career that he has been named USU's student-athlete of the week.
With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
Gudmundsson, a sophomore from Kopavogur, Iceland, broke his own school record in the javelin with a throw of 80.49 meters (264-1) to win the event last weekend at the UC Irvine-hosted Spring Break Classic. It also broke the Anteater Stadium javelin record. Gudmundsson cleared the second-place finisher by nearly 20 meters, and is the only Mountain West thrower to eclipse the 80-meter mark in conference history, as he is the league record-holder in the event. Currently, Gudmundsson leads the NCAA in the javelin throw by over seven meters.
The Aggies are back in action on the weekend of March 30, when they compete at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
