Post-Match Quotes
USU head coach James Wilson:
On the match:
"Unbelievable effort, resiliency, toughness, all the clichés that are always brought up, that was what our team showed today. We were down 3-0 in matches, Jaime (Barajas's) guy served through the match 5-4 in the third set, just found a way to break him and fight. The guys, they just never gave up. It was gut-wrenching, so nerve-wracking for me and I'm sure it was for them, but they just stayed so mentally tough. It was just awesome, just really, really awesome to see. If you had told me that we're going to lose the doubles point and Felipe (Acosta), who's been our most consistent player, is going to lose, Valdemar (Holm's) going to lose and you're still going to win, I don't know if I would believe you. It was just really, really great, and I'm really, really proud of them."
On earning three points from three-set matches:
"For Jaime (Barajas) and Sergiu (Bucur), they won their first set and they kind of lost some momentum in the second, but they just stayed really tough in the third set. For Jose (Carvajal), he lost in the first set, so he had to battle back. He was up a break in the third set and rolling, and then got a little bit nervous. He was able to kind of gather himself and really played strong at the end. It was just awesome for a freshman to do that on that stage. It's a big deal."
On freshman Addy Vashistha coming in and winning in straight sets:
"That was huge. He hasn't had a lot of playing time, and I don't necessarily think that playing indoors is his best place, but he did a great job and just took care of business. That helped us so much. It helped get the momentum going, and it really, really helped us."
USU freshman Jose Carvajal:
On the match:
"Today, my match was pretty tough. My opponent was playing really well. His serve was really good, and he fought all of the match. I was doing my strategy, I was doing what the coach wanted me to do and I did my best today."
On what it meant for the team to come back and win after being down 0-3:
"It was really good because we were playing at home, so it's like a big responsiblity. We fought really well. Everyone gave their best. Today was a really good day. We showed up."
On clinching his first match at Utah State:
"It was really good. I was a little bit nervous, but I handled it pretty well. It was pretty funny, after I won, all my teammates came to the court and we celebrated. It was really, really exciting."
