LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis head coach James Wilson has announced the additions of Isaac Arturo Arevalo (Mazatlan, Mexico), Udayan Bhakar (Bikaner, India), Daniel Bushamuka (Princeton, N.J.) and Mitchell Johnson (Englewood, Colo.) to the team for the 2018-19 season.
"I am really looking forward to having all of these guys join us next year," Wilson said. "They all fit with our culture of hard working, team-first mentality players that will develop in college. I have to give a lot of credit to assistant coach Carlos Di Laura. He did an excellent job of establishing a connection with each of these guys and worked really hard throughout the process. The future is definitely bright for Aggie men's tennis."
Arevalo has a Universal Tennis Ranking of 13.13 and an ITF ranking of 196. He is the No. 2-ranked player in Mexico.
"I chose Utah State University because it is an amazing school in all aspects," Arevalo said. "They have everything: an impressive campus, very good service, all the areas are in perfect condition. The most important thing to me is that they have a very good tennis team, each player plays with a great level and we are going to be the best team.
"I want to thank Carlos Di Laura and James Wilson for giving me this great opportunity to play with Utah State University, and I will give my best."
Bhakar has a Universal Tennis Ranking of 13.49, an ITF ranking of 186 and is the No. 2-ranked player in India.
"I felt that it would be an ideal place for me to go to college as I saw that the tennis team is strong and the college has all the facilities, coaches and teachers that will help in going pro after I finish college," Bhakar said.
Bushamuka trains at the IMG Academy in Florida, and is a three-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net. Bushamuka's brother, William, is a senior playing at Kentucky. Bushamuka has a national ranking of 319 and is ranked No. 8 in New Jersey.
"I chose Utah State because of the quality of education and top-notch tennis program," Bushamuka said. "Coach Wilson is so passionate about college tennis, and I can't wait to start my college tennis career."
Johnson is a four-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net and trains at the Gomez Academy in Florida. Johnson is nationally ranked No. 207 and is the No. 2-ranked player in Colorado.
"One of the key reasons I have chosen to be an Aggie is that the coaches have an appreciation of where the game of tennis is going and what players need in order to compete at the highest level, as their results have shown," Johnson said. "The current players on the team are impressive and experienced in all levels of competition, and I feel my game will continue to develop and the team will continue to get strong. I found the Utah State facilities and support team to be incredible on both the athletic and academic sides. I am really excited to become a part of the Utah State men's team beginning in fall 2018."
