LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's Jordan Brandt placed 10th in the first round of the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 0.82 seconds at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships on Friday afternoon at Hayes Track at the Haugh Complex in Bloomington, Ind.

"I wasn't super confident during the race, but I was happy with how I finished the race," Brandt said. "It has been a long season, but having some consistency over my last few meets makes me excited for the future."

Brandt placed third in her heat and narrowly missed out on advancing to Saturday's finals.

"I am just really proud of Jordan," Utah State sprints/hurdles coach Jeramie Murray. "The first year in college can make for a very long season. She handled it well and really gained valuable experience this year as a freshman. With her attitude and desire to be great, she has a bright future."

The championships are being held Friday through Sunday, and serve as Team USATF's selection event for the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, July 10-15. The USATF Junior Outdoors are being broadcast live via USATF.TV.

Utah State's Christian Sonnenberg will compete in the finals of the men's discus on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (MT). He qualified for the event with a personal-best mark of 51.79 meters (169-11), which he set at the Utah State-hosted Mark Faldmo Invitational.

A future Aggie, 2018 USU track & field signee Zach Meyer (Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian, Idaho), placed 14th in the first round of the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.91 seconds.
