CEDAR CITY, Utah – Utah State soccer played its sole exhibition match of the 2018 season Friday, falling to Southern Utah, 1-0.
A late goal gave the Thunderbirds the advantage, as they netted the only goal of the day with five minutes left to play.
In all, Utah State out-shot Southern Utah, 12-4, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman forward Marli Niederhauser led the Aggie offense with four shots and two on goal. Senior Grace McGuire minded the net for the full match, notching one save.
The teams played two 30-minute halves Friday, where several USU players were able to see their first collegiate action. Three freshmen were in the starting lineup for the Aggies, with another two seeing time as substitutes.
