LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer wrapped up the non-conference portion of its season Sunday, falling to UC Santa Barbara, 2-0, at home.
Utah State falls to 1-6-0 on the season, while UC Santa Barbara improves to 6-2-0 with the win.
The Gaucho offense dominated the match early on, where the team netted the first goal of the day in the third minute of action. As the ball bounced around in the penalty box, a UCSB player took the first shot of the day to start the scoring. The first half ended much the same way it started, as the Gauchos doubled their lead in the 44th minute. A corner kick worked its way into the box, finding the foot of a UC Santa Barbara player to take a 2-0 lead.
The Aggies struggled to gain any offensive momentum throughout the contest, taking just four shots on the day. The Gauchos finished the game with 20 shots, including six on goal, controlling the ball in their offensive third for the majority of the minutes.
Utah State continues its seven-match homestand next week, as it opens Mountain West play. The Aggies will host UNLV on Friday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m., followed by Nevada on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m.
