LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer wrapped up its season-long homestand Sunday, falling to Colorado State, 2-0.
With the loss, Utah State falls to 2-9-0 overall and 1-3-0 in Mountain West play. Colorado State improves to 4-5-3 on the season, including a 1-2-1 league ledger.
The teams created an even battle through the early minutes of the match, trading possessions and shots back-and-forth. The contest was also very defensive early on, which continued through the final buzzer. The Rams finished the match with 18 fouls and two yellow cards, while the Aggies committed eight fouls.
Colorado State scored its first goal of the day in the 39th minute. As play developed inside the goal box, a cross deflected off a USU defender to find the foot of a Ram player who was able to shoot and score. In the second half, the Rams added to their lead in a similar manner, scoring off a rebounded shot in the 72nd minute.
Playing from behind for the remainder of the match, the Aggies were never able to catch the Rams. Utah State was able to control possession, taking two shots and a corner kick in the last five minutes, but was never able to find the back of the net.
On the day, the teams took an even 12 shots apiece, along with an equal five shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Grace McGuire minded the net for the Aggies Sunday, picking up three saves.
After seven-straight home matches, Utah State returns to the road next week for a pair of Mountain West matches. The Aggies will play at San Diego State on Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. (MT), followed by a match at New Mexico on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m.
