Utah State women's basketball (10-8, 5-2 Mountain West) has a pair of Mountain West road games this week as the Aggies take on San José State (1-17, 0-7 MW) on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m. (MT), followed by UNLV on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
Utah State leads the all-time series, 18-10, against San José State. The Aggies have won the last two matchups against the Spartans, including an 82-49 win in Logan on Jan. 16. SJSU (1-17, 0-7 MW) averages 60.4 points per game, while shooting 37.5 percent (395-of-1,105) from the field, 30.8 percent (143-of-465) from behind the arc and 67.5 percent (154-of-228) at the free throw line. Sophomore forward Cyndi Lewis and junior guard Fieme'a Hafoka lead the Spartans in scoring at 9.2 point per game each. Lewis also leads San José State on the glass, averaging 4.8 boards per game, while sophomore guard Danae Marquez leads the Spartans with an average of 3.8 assists per game.
Defensively, San José State allows 77.2 points per game as opponents shoot 43.2 percent (528-of-1,223) from the floor, 29.6 percent (115-of-388) from the 3-point line and 67.1 percent (218-of-325) at the free throw line. Lewis leads the team in blocks with an average of 1.0 per game, while Marquez leads the team in steals with an average of 1.4 per game.
SCOUTING THE LADY REBELS
UNLV leads the all-time series against Utah State, 21-4, and is undefeated against the Aggies at home, leading 15-0. This season, UNLV is 6-12, including 4-3 in Mountain West play, and has won four of its last five games. The Lady Rebels are averaging 59.2 points per game, while shooting 37.5 percent (386-of-1,028) from the field, 27.5 percent (77-of-280) from behind the arc and 65.0 percent (217-of-334) at the free throw line. Two Lady Rebels average double figures in senior forward/center Katie Powell (14.8 ppg) and redshirt senior guard Nikki Wheatley (11.2 ppg). Powell also leads UNLV on the boards, averaging 7.0 rebounds per game, while Wheatley leads the team in assists at 2.0 per game.
Defensively, opponents are averaging 63.0 points per game against the Lady Rebels, while shooting 40.7 percent (403-of-989) from the floor, 32.9 percent (112-of-340) from the 3-point line and 65.9 percent (216-of-328) at the charity stripe. Powell leads the team in blocks, averaging 0.7 per game, and junior guard Latecia Smith leads UNLV in steals with 1.4 per game.
DOUBLES FOR DAYS
Junior guard/forward
Shannon Dufficy recorded her school-record eighth consecutive double-doubles with a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds against New Mexico (Jan. 26). Dufficy has recorded a double-double in every conference outing this season, averaging 20.9 points and 12.4 rebounds per game in Mountain West play.
DOUBLES FOR DAYS - PART II
Dufficy has recorded 12 double-doubles this season to rank first in the Mountain West and 12th in the nation. Dufficy averages a double-double at 16.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Her 12 double-doubles tie for fourth in program history in single-season double-doubles. Sharon Epps set the record of 17 in the 1981-82 season.
DOUBLES FOR DAYS - PART III
Dufficy has recorded 24 double-doubles in her Aggie career to rank fourth in school history. Epps holds the record with 31 career double-doubles.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
Utah State ranks second in the conference in rebounding, averaging 39.3 boards per game. The Aggies have outrebounded their last three opponents, 137-88. USU outrebounded New Mexico, who at the time ranked sixth in the nation in rebounds per game, by three (41-38), Colorado State by 25 (45-20) and San José State by 21 (51-30).
GLASS EATER
Junior guard/forward
Shannon Dufficy has pulled down at least five rebounds in all but one game this season, and has had 12 games collecting double-digit boards. She has led the team in rebounding in each of the last nine games and 11 of the last 12. Dufficy averages 10.3 rebounds per game to rank first in the Mountain West and 33rd in the nation. Dufficy has totaled 185 rebounds this season to rank first in the conference and 46th in the nation.
SHARING IS CARING
Utah State ranks second in the conference and 37th in the nation in assists per game at 16.2. The Aggies have dished out more assists than their opponents in 14 of their 18 games this season. Junior guard
Eliza West leads the team with a total of 99 dimes, which ranks second in the conference and 37th in the nation. West ranks second in the league and 25th in the nation in assists per game, averaging 5.5 per contest.
HELPING HAND
West nearly tied Utah State's record in single-game assists against Utah Valley (Dec. 15). West dished out a career-high 13 assists to rank second all-time in single-game history and was just one dime shy of tying the school record of 14, set by Corrina Poto in 1982.
DROPPING POINTS ON THE MOUNTAIN

Shannon Dufficy has scored 20 or more points in five of the seven conference games this season, including a career-high 26 points against New Mexico (Jan. 26).
SECOND QUARTER DOMINATION
Utah State has outscored its opponents, 137-72, in the second quarter in Mountain West play. In the last four games, USU outscored New Mexico, 17-14, Wyoming, 16-6, San José State, 29-8, and Colorado State, 28-12, in the second period. Because of the second quarter effort, the Aggies have led at the half in all but one conference game this season.
BEST IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
Utah State is tied for first in the conference and ranks first in conference games in scoring defense. Overall, the Aggies have allowed 58.4 points per game, while allowing 57.4 points per conference game. In conference play, USU has held three opponents to under 50 points and one to under 55.
SHUTTING DOWN THE THREE
Utah State shut down Wyoming, which at the time was leading the nation in 3-point field goal percentage, behind the arc in its 50-42 victory (Jan. 12). Wyoming entered the game shooting 43.7 percent (111-of-254) from long range. The Aggies held the Cowgirls to a season-low 19.0 percent (4-of-21) from deep, and also held Wyoming to a season low from the field as the Cowgirls shot 32.7 percent (16-of-49) from the floor for a season-low 42 points.
