LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Utah State volleyball opened a two-match road swing Thursday night, falling to UNLV in three sets.
The teams kept things close throughout the first and second sets before the Rebels closed each out. The Aggies never led in set one, but tied the score six different times before UNLV took the 25-20 win. USU did lead early in the second set, but a late run by the Rebels pushed them ahead to a 25-21 victory. UNLV dominated the third set from the start, taking it 25-14.
Senior opposite side hitter
Izzie Belnap was the top attacker for the Aggies, as she hit .400 on the night with seven kills. The Aggies were unable to find an answer for UNLV junior Mariena Hayden who recorded a double-double behind 22 kills and 11 service aces while hitting .545. Utah State continued its strong performance on the block, putting up seven to UNLV's three. Sophomore middle blocker
Autumn Spafford led the team with four total blocks.
Utah State hit .162 (18-6-74) on the night, while UNLV hit .337 (48-16-95)
The Aggies continue their week on the road, playing at New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m
