LOGAN, Utah - Utah State soccer logged 11 shots over the final 45 minutes after taking just one in the first half, but the second-half surge wasn't enough in a 1-0 loss at home against San Diego State on Sunday afternoon.
The Aztecs scored the only goal of the match in the 68th minute, when an SDSU corner kick was cleared to the center of the field. San Diego State's Sarah Broacha lobbed the ball back into the box and Laura Fuentes flicked the ball off of her head and over USU keeper Diera Walton.
Despite the goal, Utah State proved to be the aggressors over the final 45 minutes after recording 11 shots with four on goal during the second half. USU senior defender Mealii Enos led the Aggies with three shots, while junior defender Imelda Williams led the squad with two shots on goal.
In the box, Walton finished with three saves, while San Diego State keeper Brooke Lisowski logged four saves. The Aztecs were also credited with a team save after USU freshman midfielder Sid Barlow nearly equalized in the 87th minute, striking the ball from inside the six-yard box only to have it parried out of play by an SDSU defender.
Utah State takes its final road trip of the season for its upcoming matches, traveling to Colorado State on Friday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m., and Wyoming on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m.
