SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Utah State volleyball wrapped up its week of road competition Saturday, falling to San Diego State, 3-0.
Utah State started the match on a high note, taking a 7-2 lead in the first set before San Diego State fought back to take the set, 25-19. The Aggies again led early on in the second, but allowed a couple of small runs for the Aztecs to win, 25-20. SDSU had the same success to start the third, jumping out to a 6-1 lead. The Aggies made a late run, scoring seven straight points to tie the score at 22, but San Diego State was able to respond, closing it out on a three-point run. The Aztecs recorded back-to-back service aces to earn a 25-22 win.
The Aggie attack was led by seven kills apiece from sophomore middle blocker
Corinne Larsen and senior opposite side hitter
Izzie Belnap, who hit .429 (7-1-14) and .375 (7-1-16), respectively. Larsen also led the Aggies on the block, putting up six (1-5) in the match.
On the day, Utah State hit .223 (31-10-94), while San Diego State hit .240 (46-21-104). The Aggies doubled up the Aztecs on the block, recording eight to SDSU's four.
