LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball hosted New Mexico Thursday, falling to the Lobos, 3-1.
New Mexico took the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-21. The Aggies bounced back in the third set, posting a 25-17 win, but the Lobos answered with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.
The Aggies and Lobos kept things close to start the match, before the Lobos pulled away. New Mexico controlled play through most of the second set. USU was able to tie the score at 14 before UNM retook the lead to close out the set. The Aggies led from start to finish in the third set, leading by as many as eight several times. New Mexico then wrapped up the match in the fourth set, leading the entire time.
Senior opposite side hitter
Izzie Belnap led the Aggie attack Thursday, as she recorded a career-best 15 kills while hitting a team-high .387 (15-3-31). She was joined in double figures by sophomore outside hitter
Whitney Solosabal, who added 12 kills. Junior
Madi Olson-Shepherd saw her first action at libero this season, tallying a career-high 15 digs. Junior opposite
Bailey Downing led USU on the block, putting up seven on the Lobos.
On the night, Utah State hit .157 (44-24-127), while New Mexico hit .229 (54-24-131) as a team.
Utah State will wrap-up the week at home on Saturday, Nov. 9, hosting UNLV at 1 p.m.
