ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Utah State women's basketball (11-14, 6-8 Mountain West) lost, 74-56, to New Mexico (21-4, 11-3 MW) in Dreamstyle Arena - The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M., Wednesday night.
Senior guard
Rachel Brewster led the Aggies with a season-high 20 points, while junior guard/forward
Shannon Dufficy led the team on the glass with 12 rebounds.
After New Mexico took a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, the Aggies responded with a 10-0 run for the 10-5 advantage after layups from Dufficy, junior guard/forward
Hailey Bassett and junior guard
Eliza West. The Lobos took back the lead, 18-16, but a three from freshman guard
Steph Gorman and a layup from junior guard
Olivia West gave USU the 21-18 edge at the end of the period.
The Lobos held a four-point lead before a Brewster and-1 trimmed it to 28-27 with 4:55 to go in the second quarter. New Mexico led by as many as seven, 36-29, but a Gorman trey cut it to four. The Lobos maintained the lead for the 38-34 edge at the half.
The Aggies broke open the third quarter with a 9-0 run after a trio of layups from Brewster and a triple from Gorman to take the 43-38 lead. New Mexico responded with a 9-3 run to take the one-point lead, 47-46. A Bassett layup ended a 7-0 Lobos run to cut New Mexico's lead to five, 55-50, at the end of the stanza.

Lindsey Jensen-Baker trimmed the lead to 72-56. A Lobo layup gave New Mexico the 74-56 victory.
New Mexico had five players score in double figures, led by senior center Jaisa Nunn with 15.
Utah State finished the night shooting 34.3 percent (23-of-67) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from behind the arc and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) at the free throw line. New Mexico shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) from the floor, 37.5 percent (9-of-24) from long range and 64.7 percent (11-of-17) at the free throw line.
Utah State next returns to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday, Feb. 23, to host Boise State (21-3, 12-1 MW) at 2 p.m.
