LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (8-11, 0-0 MW) will open the Mountain West portion of its 2019 season this weekend in a three-game series at Nevada (13-8, 0-0 MW). The Aggies and Wolf Pack will start the series on Friday, March 15, in a 5 p.m. (MT) game. The weekend will continue with games on Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m., and Sunday, March 17, at 1 p.m.
All of the 2019 Mountain West games, as well as all USU home games, will continue to be broadcast as a USU Athletics Production on the Mountain West Network. All video feeds will be available live and in archive form at utahstateaggies.com/watch. Live stats will also be provided by SIDEARM for all home games, while road contests will also have live stats available. Links to each option will be available online prior to every game. In-game updates will also be provided through the team's social media outlets.
Nevada opens Mountain West play with a 13-8 record. The Wolf Pack wrapped up tournament play going 2-2 at the Silicon Valley Classic II, then posted a pair of wins at Saint Mary's. As a team, Nevada is batting .288 (159-of-553) on the season, led by junior utility player Kenzi Goins who is hitting .350 (21-of-60). Four pitchers have seen time in the circle for the Wolf Pack, putting together a combined ERA of 2.82. Sophomore Julia Jensen leads the group with a 2.30 ERA and a 6-1 individual record. Josh Taylor is in his third season as the head coach at Nevada, where he has an overall record of 45-30.
Nevada leads the all-time series against Utah State, 30-23. The Aggies have gone 10-15 against the Wolf Pack in all games played in Reno. Since both teams have played in the Mountain West, Nevada holds a 9-6 lead against Utah State. The Wolf Pack took the 2018 series, 2-1.
For the Aggies, sophomore designated player Kennedy Hira leads the team at the plate, batting .394 (13-of-33). As a team, USU is batting .285 (141-of-494). In the circle, sophomore Delaney Hull leads the pitching staff with a 5.44 ERA, while the three pitchers have allowed 142 hits and 96 earned runs with a combined 5.888 ERA.
