LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis (13-6, 1-0 MW) will host a season-high four-straight matches, beginning with Cal Poly (7-6, 0-0 Big West) on Wednesday, March 27, at 2 p.m., followed by San Diego State (7-6, 0-0 MW) on Friday, March 29, at 11 a.m. The match on Wednesday will be played on the Outdoor Tennis Courts, while Friday's match will take place at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
"It's nice to be home and to be playing against two quality opponents," said head coach James Wilson. "Both have had some good results as of late, so we will need to be at our best."
Utah State (13-6, 1-0 MW) is led by sophomore Felipe Acosta, who is 14-2. Acosta clinched the 4-2 win at Rice in the Aggies' last match, as he leads the team with four match-clinching victories this season. Overall, Acosta has clinched the match for the Aggies five times over the course of his career. Junior Duro Opacic also has 14 wins on the season and is currently tied for seventh in single-season singles wins with 23.
The Aggies will be looking for their first win against Cal Poly as the Mustangs are a perfect 11-0 in the series. Cal Poly is led by Alex Stater, who is 9-3, while the doubles team of Antoine Noel and Gary Vardanyan sit at 4-1 at the No. 3 spot.
Utah State leads the series against San Diego State, 4-3, and have won the last three matches against the Aztecs, all by 4-1 scores. San Diego State is led by Rafael Gonzalez Almazan, who is 10-7 at the Nos. 5 and 6 spots, while the doubles team of Almazan and Sander Gjoels-Andersen are 6-8 at the top spot.
