LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior distance runner Alyssa Snyder has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, April 21, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the first time this year and third time in her career that Snyder has been named USU's student-athlete of the week. With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
The native of Coaville, Utah, broke the school record in the 10,000-meter run last weekend as she clocked in with a time of 33:50.95 to finish 10th overall at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Utah State is back in action this weekend at the BYU-hosted Clarence Robison Invitational from Thursday through Saturday, April 25-27.

GOLF – Sophomore Andy Hess (Idaho Falls, Idaho) shot an opening round 2-under-par 70 and finished tied for 46th place at 4-over 220 (70-74-76) at the BYU-hosted PING Cougar Classic held last week at the Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah. Hess' opening-round 70 was his sixth round under par this season and the 10th of his career. As a team, Utah State finished in 15th place at 30-over 894 (299-296-299).
SOFTBALL – Freshman shortstop Lexi Orozco (San Marcos, Calif.) was the top performer for Utah State as the Aggies dropped a three-game Mountain West home series to Fresno State (L 11-6, L 5-2, L 7-5 (9)). In the series opener, Orozco went 1-for-3 at the plate, hitting her second grand slam of the season. She also scored two runs and added three assists defensively. In Friday's game, Orozco batted 2-for-3 and scored once, while tallying two putouts and three assists. In the series finale, Orozco was again 2-for-3 at the plate, hitting two home runs and setting the single-season home run record. She had four RBIs in the game and was walked once, while posting three putouts and four assists. On the week, Orozco batted a team-high .556 (5-of-9), including three home runs. She scored four runs and tallied eight RBIs, while getting walked once. Defensively, she finished the weekend with five putouts and 10 assists.
MEN'S TENNIS – Junior Duro Opacic (Belgrade, Serbia) posted a combined 2-0 record as Utah State notched a 4-0 Mountain West road win at Boise State last weekend to conclude its regular season. Opacic won via a retirement at No. 6 singles with a 4-1 first-set score and teamed with junior Sergiu Bucur at the third doubles position for a 6-3 win. With Opacic's singles victory, he now has 27 singles wins this season, which is the most in program history.
WOMEN'S TENNIS – Freshman Annaliese County (Highland, Utah) posted a combined 2-0 record last week as Utah State recorded a 6-1 Mountain West home win against Boise State to conclude its regular season. County clinched her fourth match of the season with a straight-sets win at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-4). County also teamed with junior Lucy Octave at the third doubles position for a 6-1 win.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD – Junior Kyle Brost (Chandler, Ariz.) broke the school record in the triple jump last weekend with a personal-best leap of 15.17 meters (49-9.25) to place 13th in the event at the Long Beach State-hosted Beach Invitational.
