LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer has announced its competition slate for the 2019 season.
Among Utah State's opponents this season is one team that participated in the 2018 College Cup, in conference rival San José State. Additionally, there are four first-time opponents for the Aggies, including Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, Marquette and South Dakota.
Utah State will open the season unofficially at home in an exhibition game against Southern Utah on Friday, Aug. 16, marking the fourth season in a row the teams have met in a season-opening exhibition match. Official competition will begin on the road for the Aggies, who play at South Dakota State on Friday, Aug. 23, and at South Dakota on Sunday, Aug. 25. The team will return to the Beehive State then to play at Utah on Friday, Aug. 30.
The Aggies will open the home portion of its season in another in-state contest against Weber State on Wednesday, Sept. 4. USU then returns to the road for three matches, starting at Marquette on Sunday, Sept. 8. The team will play at Illinois State on Friday, Sept. 13, and at Illinois-Chicago on Sunday, Sept. 15. The Aggies will wrap-up non-conference play at home, hosting border-foe Idaho State on Sunday, Sept. 22.
The start of Mountain West play will find Utah State on a four-match road trip. USU will play at UNLV on Friday, Sept. 27, and at Nevada on Sunday, Sept. 29. The Aggies will then head to California to play at Fresno State on Friday, Oct. 4, and at San José State on Sunday, Oct. 6. USU will host New Mexico on Friday, Oct. 11, and San Diego State on Sunday, Oct. 13.
The final road swing of the regular season will find the Aggies at Colorado State on Friday, Oct. 18, with the final road match set for Sunday, Oct. 20, at Wyoming. Utah State will wrap-up the year in a three-match homestand. USU will play Air Force on Friday, Oct. 25, Colorado College on Sunday, Oct. 27, and Boise State on Friday, Nov. 1.
As the winners of the 2018 regular-season conference title, Boise State will host the Mountain West Championship. The tournament will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with the championship game set for Saturday, Nov. 9.
Utah State returns the majority of its team to the field for 2019 with eight starters coming back from the 2018 roster. Another four letterwinners are also back for the Aggies, while the team added 12 new players in the offseason. USU finished the 2018 season with a 3-13-2 record, going 2-7-2 in Mountain West play.
