LOGAN, Utah - Utah State soccer lost 3-0 at Utah on Friday night as the Utes cut the ribbon on their newly minted soccer field. The loss drops the Aggies to 1-2-0 on the year, while Utah picked up its first victory of the 2019 campaign, moving to a matching 1-2-0.
"We came out a little slow and absorbed too much in the first half," USU head coach Heather Cairns said after the match. "We came out more aggressive in the second half and I was a lot happier with our play."
Utah State recorded four shots to Utah's 20 during the match, but USU freshman keeper Diera Walton kept the Aggies in the match with six saves, including a kick save on a Utah penalty kick in the 90th minute.
Utah scored a pair of goals in the opening 45 minutes, the second coming off of a corner kick in the 27th minute. Utah State came out the aggressors in the second half, creating five corner kicks to the Utes' two, but were unable to come away with a goal on the set piece opportunities.
The Utes scored their final goal of the match on a counter attack following the Aggies' final corner kick of the half to put the final score at 3-0.
