LOGAN, Utah - Utah State soccer posted a 3-0 sweep over Idaho State (1-8-1) in its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday after goals from freshman forward
Maya Lorenzana and sophomore forward
Jordan Foraker, along with a Bengal own goal. The Aggies improved their record to 5-3-0 as they head into Mountain West action, while freshman goalkeeper
Diera Walton recorded her third clean sheet of the season.
"It's great to end the non-conference games with a decisive win," head coach
Heather Cairns said. "I'm really proud of Jordan and Maya stepping up and becoming our 10th and 11th goal scorers on the season. I'm proud of the team that we stayed focused. The second half wasn't as great tactically as we would have hoped, but we did win the half. That was one our goals at halftime. It was a really good performance. We're really confident and excited to head into conference play this week to start back at 0-0 and just get rolling with conference now."
The goals from Lorenzana and Foraker marked their first of the season and first of their careers. The Aggies' first goal went on the board after an Idaho State own goal in the 15th minute. Lorenzana then scored on a one-two pass from freshman forward
Christiane Sundstrom in the 42nd minute. Foraker's goal was approximately 18 yards out off an assist from junior forward
Karstyn Peterson in the 86th minute.
The Bengals logged just six shots during the match with three on goal, all of which were saved by Walton. The Aggies recorded 17 shots, including 11 on goal, led by junior midfielder
Ashley Cardozo and Foraker who each tallied three apiece. Walton's third clean sheet of the season extended the Aggies' streak of more than 210 minutes without conceding a goal.
Utah State now turns its attention to conference play as USU opens its Mountain West portion of the schedule at UNLV (3-4-0) on Friday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. (MT).
