Utah State Leads the Nation in Kickoff Returns and is Sixth in Total Offense

LOGAN, Utah – Following its 34-24 Mountain West Homecoming win against Colorado State this past weekend, Utah State now ranks among the top-40 teams nationally in 20 different statistical categories, including leading the nation in kickoff returns (34.6 ypr) and ranking ninth in total offense (533.0 ypg).
 
Offensively, the Aggies also rank first in the Mountain West and 19th in the nation in scoring (38.5 ppg), second in the MW and 12th in the nation in passing (326.3 ypg), second in the MW and 32nd in the nation in completion percentage (.665), third in the MW and sixth in the nation in sacks allowed with three (0.75 pg), third in the MW and 35th in the nation in rushing (206.8 ypg), and fifth in the MW and 67th in the nation in passing efficiency (139.3).
 
Utah State's offense also ranks third in the MW and 17th in the nation with a third down conversion percentage of 50.0 (32-64), third in the MW and 24th in the nation in yards per carry (5.3), and fifth in the MW and 24th in the nation in tackles for loss allowed (4.25 pg). 
 
Defensively, the Aggies are fifth in the Mountain West and 43rd in the nation in points allowed (21.5 ppg), fourth in the MW and 34th in the nation in tackles for loss (7.0 pg), fourth in the MW and 46th in the nation in passing efficiency defense (122.7), fifth in the MW and 35th in the nation in rushing yards allowed (114.0 ypg), fifth in the MW and 57th in the nation in total yards allowed (377.5 ypg), fifth in the MW and 74th in the nation in sacks (2.0 pg), and ninth in the MW in passing yards allowed (263.5 ypg).
 
USU's defense also ranks second in the MW and 23rd in the nation with its four fumble recoveries (1.0 pg), third in the MW and 15th in the nation in yards per carry allowed (2.7), and fourth in the MW and 40th in the nation in red zone defense (.769) as it has allowed 10 scores in 13 trips.
 
The Aggies have scored two defensive touchdowns this season to rank first in the Mountain West and fourth in the nation, while their six forced turnovers (four fumbles, two interceptions) ranks sixth in the MW and 62nd in the nation.
 
On special teams, Utah State is first in the nation in kickoff returns (34.6 ypr), second in the Mountain West and 15th in the nation in punt returns (17.5 ypr), fourth in the MW and 52nd in the nation in kickoff return defense (19.6 ypr), and 12th in net punting (37.3 ypp).
 
Individually, junior LB David Woodward leads the nation in forced fumbles with four (1.0 pg), is second in the Mountain West and third in the nation in tackles (13.8 pg), and second in the MW and 25th in the nation in fumbles recovered with one (0.25 pg).
 
Junior WR Savon Scarver leads the nation in kickoff returns (41.4 ypr), is tied for first in the MW and second in the nation with one kickoff return for touchdown (0.25 pg), and ninth in the MW in all-purpose yards (93.8 pg).
 
Sophomore WR Deven Thompkins is tied for first in the nation with his one punt return for touchdown (0.25 pg), is fourth in the MW and 54th in the nation in receiving touchdowns with three (0.75 pg), fifth in the MW and 85th in the nation in yards per reception (16.1), and eighth in the MW and 68th in the nation in total touchdowns with four (1.0 pg).
 
Junior QB Jordan Love is first in the MW and sixth in the nation in completions (26.3 pg), second in the MW and 14th in the nation in passing yards (301.8 ypg), second in the MW and 14th in the nation in total offense (318.8 ypg), second in the MW and 43rd in the nation in completion percentage (.648), fourth in the MW and 68th in the nation in passing touchdowns with six (1.5 pg), and fourth in the MW and 78th in the nation in passing efficiency (133.4).
 
Senior PK Dominik Eberle is second in the MW and 17th in the nation in scoring (10.0 ppg), third in the MW and 16th in the nation in field goals made per game (1.75), and third in the MW and 27th in the nation in field goal percentage (.875) as he is 7-of-8 on the season.
 
Junior RB Jaylen Warren is fourth in the MW and 22nd in the nation in yards per carry (6.7), fourth in the MW and 54th in the nation in rushing touchdowns with four (1.0 pg), sixth in the MW and 44th in the nation in rushing (83.8 ypg), seventh in the MW and 78th in the nation in all-purpose yards (103.0), and eighth in the MW and 68th in the nation in total touchdowns with four (1.0 pg).
 
Senior DE Dalton Baker is second in the MW and 25th in the nation with one fumble recovery (0.25 pg), while fellow senior DE Tipa Galeai is second in the MW and 25th in the nation with one fumble recovery (0.25 pg).
 
Redshirt junior DE Justus Te'i is second in the MW and 25th in the nation with one fumble recovery (0.25 pg).
 
Senior graduate transfer WR Siaosi Mariner is fifth in the MW and 47th in the nation in receiving yards (76.3 ypg), fifth in the MW and 48th in the nation in receptions (65.5 pg), and ninth in the MW in receiving touchdowns with two (0.5 pg).
 
Junior S Cash Gilliam is fifth in the MW and 44th in the nation in fumbles forced with one (0.3 pg), and junior graduate transfer DE Nick Heninger is ninth in the MW in sacks with two (0.5 pg).
 
Junior S Shaq Bond is 10th in the MW and 75th in the nation in interceptions with one (0.25 pg),  sophomore CB Andre Grayson is 10th in the MW and 75th in the nation in interceptions with one (0.25 pg) and freshman P Pierce Callister is eighth in the MW and 94th in the nation in punting (37.6 ypp).
 
Utah State will step out of conference play when it travels to Baton Rouge, La., to face fourth-ranked LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC) on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Tiger Stadium. The game, which will be televised nationally on the SEC Network, will kick off at 10 a.m. (MT).
