LOGAN, Utah - Utah State made the most of its set-piece opportunities on Wednesday afternoon, posting a 2-1, double-overtime victory over Weber State in its 2019 home opener. The Aggies scored both of their goals on corner kicks with defenders Mealii Enos and Imelda Williams heading home Ashley Cardozo services.

"To be able to win a game in overtime, there's no bigger thrill than to be on that end of it," said Utah State head coach Heather Cairns. "To be able to fight and get the first goal, to be able to not panic when they tied it up, I think our team is really starting to show what they're made of and I'm really proud of them for battling the way they did today."

Neither team found the back of the net over the course of the first half, but Enos put the first lights on the board with a perfectly placed header off a corner kick, served up by Cardozo, in the 68th minutes. The Wildcats equalized less than 10 minutes later when freshman Lauren McConnell, a Cache Valley native that prepped at Mountain Crest High School, found the ball in the box and hit a strike to the lower left corner to tie the match at 1-1 in the 77th minute.

The contest went into the 103rd minute before the result was final as Williams recorded her second game winner of the year, heading a Cardozo service into the back on the net on the Aggies' fifth corner kick of the match.

In all, Utah State took 13 shots including nine on goal, to Weber State's 10 shots with eight on frame. Freshman keeper Diera Walton made her third start of the season in goal for USU, recording six saves.

Utah State now heads to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on Marquette on Sunday, Sept. 8. Seven of the Aggies' next eight games are on the road, with the next home game coming on Sept. 22, against Idaho State at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field.
