LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis (1-0) continues its 2020 season when it hosts Idaho (0-1) on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m.
The match will be played at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. Admission is free. A live video feed of each court will be provided. Idaho opened its season in a 7-0 loss at Utah on Jan. 16. Against the Utes, Esteban Santibanez and Franciso Bascon-Perez won the team's sole double match, but the Vandals were swept in singles play. In 2019, Idaho finished the year with a 5-15 overall record, going 2-8 in Big Sky play. The Idaho roster boasts eight freshmen, who join the three returning seniors. Daniel Hangstefer is in his second season as the head coach at Idaho.
Utah State opened its season in a 4-3 win over Grand Canyon last weekend. Freshman Christian Holmes clinched the match in a three-set win (6-7, 7-6, 6-3) at No. 6 singles, while junior Felipe Acosta (6-2, 6-0) and freshman Arvid Hjalte (6-4, 6-2) both posted straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively. The Aggies also won the doubles point behind wins from the duos of Acosta and freshman Javier Ruiz (6-4) at the second position and Hjalte and Holmes (6-4) at the third position.
