LOGAN, Utah - It was a battle to the finish as Utah State women's basketball (5-13, 0-7 Mountain West) lost, 65-59, to Boise State (14-6, 6-2 MW) on Saturday inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Senior forward
Hailey Bassett became the 10th Aggie to score 1,000 points in her career after scoring 12 points against the Broncos for a total of 1,004 career points. Bassett also recorded her third double-double of the season and sixth of her career with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Two other Aggies scored in double figures in sophomore guard
Steph Gorman with a game-high 18 points and senior guard
Lindsey Jensen-Baker with 14 points.
USU outrebounded Boise State, 40-31, and grabbed 11 offensive boards compared to the Broncos' two.
After trailing 20-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Aggies outscored the Broncos, 21-13, in the second stanza to cut the lead down to two, 33-31, at the break. The game stayed tight for the remainder of the game. Boise State held a 55-48 lead with 6:47 remaining in the fourth period, but USU trimmed the lead and a Gorman layup gave Utah State the 59-58 lead with 37 seconds to play. However, the Broncos would go on to win it, 65-59.
The Broncos were led by senior guard Braydey Hodgins with 17 points.
USU shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the field, 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from behind the arc and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) at the free throw line. Boise State shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) from the floor, 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from behind the 3-point line and 82.4 percent (14-of-17) at the free throw line.
Utah State will next head on a two-game road trip as the Aggies take on Air Force (4-14, 2-5 MW) on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m., followed by Colorado State (9-9, 3-4 MW) on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m.
