USU WBB Notes - Utah State Hosts Colorado State and Fresno State in Pair of Home Games

Utah State women's basketball (7-17, 2-11 MW) continues Mountain West play this week as the Aggies host Colorado State (10-13, 4-8 MW) on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m., followed by Fresno State (20-4, 13-0 MW) on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m.

BUZZER BEATER IN BOISE
Senior forward Marlene Aniambossou hit the game-winning basket with 1.4 seconds remaining over two Bronco defenders for the 58-56 Utah State victory over Boise State in a road contest on Saturday, Feb. 8. The win marked the first Aggie victory in Boise since the 2011-12 season.

1,000-POINT CLUB
Senior forward Hailey Bassett became the 10th Aggie to score 1,000 points in her career after scoring 12 points against Boise State (Jan. 18). Bassett currently sits at the No. 8 spot in the career record books with 1,070 points. She needs 36 points to pass Margaret Johns (1980-83) for the No. 7 spot.

HITTING THE CENTURY MARK
Bassett
 played in her 100th game of her Aggie career in the 83-62 loss at Cal State Fullerton (Nov. 20). Bassett, who has never missed a game in her collegiate career, holds the No. 7 spot in the career record books with 119 games played.

SCOUTING THE RAMS
Colorado State leads Utah State in the all-time series, 19-13, including a 56-55 win in Fort Collins, Colo., on Jan. 25. This season, Colorado State averages 62.3 points per game, while shooting 39.3 percent (535-of-1,361) from the field, 31.6 percent (174-of-550) from behind the arc and 72.5 percent (190-of-262) at the free throw line. The Rams are led by graduate forward Mackenzie Ellis with 10.7 points per game, redshirt senior forward Andrea Brady with 8.5 rebounds per game and redshirt sophomore guard Tori Williams with 3.1 assists per game.

Defensively, Colorado State allows 60.4 points per game, with opponents shooting 38.2 percent (504-of-1,319) from the floor, 32.7 percent (168-of-513) from behind the 3-point line and 73.4 percent (213-of-290) at the free throw line. Ellis and Brady lead the Rams with 1.7 blocks per game each, while Ellis also leads with 1.3 steals per game.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Fresno State leads Utah State in the all-time series, 24-4, including a 76-64 win in Fresno, Calif., on Dec. 7. This season, the Bulldogs average 76.8 points per game, while shooting 43.4 percent (698-of-1,609) from the field, 30.5 percent (171-of-561) from behind the arc and 75.5 percent (277-of-367) at the free throw line. The Bulldogs are led by junior forward Maddi Utti with 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, and freshman guard Hanna Cavinder with 4.0 assists per game.

Defensively, Fresno State allows 65.1 points per game, with opponents shooting 39.7 percent (605-of-1,523) from the floor, 28.7 percent (137-of-477) from behind the 3-point line and 69.4 percent (215-of-310) at the free throw line. The Bulldogs are led by Utti with 2.5 steals per game and freshman center Brooke Walling with 0.8 blocks per game.

DEFENSIVELY SOUND IN BOISE 
Utah State had a strong defensive outing in the 58-56 win against Boise State (Feb. 8). The Aggies ended the second quarter with a 13-3 run to lead 28-19 at the half. The 19 points by the Broncos were their second fewest scored in the first half this season. Utah State scored 19 points off of Boise State's 18 turnovers during the game, and scored 12 fast break points compared to BSU's three. The Broncos shot a season-low 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the field. 

DOWN TO THE WIRE IN COLORADO
Utah State went down to the wire in both of its games during its Colorado trip, with both contests being decided by one point. The Aggies earned their first Mountain West victory of the season with a 53-52 win over Air Force (Jan. 22), followed by a 56-55 loss to Colorado State (Jan. 25). Both games concluded with a last second shot, with the losing team in each game missing a shot at the buzzer.

KNOCKING IT DOWN FROM DOWNTOWN
Sophomore guard Steph Gorman has made 56 3-pointers this season to rank No. 4 on the single-season record list. Gorman is just the second Aggie to have made 50-plus 3-pointers in back-to-back seasons after making 54 in her freshman campaign. Devyn Christensen (2010-13) is the only other Aggie to make more than 50 3-pointers in back-to-back seasons with 107 makes in the 2012-13 campaign and 64 in the 2011-12 season for the top two spots on the single-season record list.

KNOCKING IT DOWN FROM DOWNTOWN - PART II
Gorman 
has made 110 3-pointers in her USU career to rank No. 4 on the career record list. She needs two more makes to pass Olivia West (2017-19) and 18 more to pass Jennifer Schlott (2011-14) for the Nos. 3 and 2 spots, respectively. 

NOT IN MY HOUSE
Senior forward Hailey Bassett ranks third the Mountain West in blocks per game, averaging 1.33 per game on the season, and is tied for fifth in league play, averaging 1.15 blocks per game.

NOT IN MY HOUSE - PART II
Bassett
 has totaled 96 blocked shots as an Aggie to rank sixth in the USU career record books. Bassett needs four more to become the sixth Aggie to record 100 blocks in program history.

I'LL TAKE THAT
Sophomore guard Steph Gorman is tied for second in the Mountain West and ranks 41st in the nation in steals per game this season, averaging 2.43 thefts per contest. Gorman ranks 34th in the nation in total steals with 56 on the season.

BREAKOUT SEASON
Senior guard Lindsey Jensen-Baker has been having a breakout senior campaign as she has scored in double figures in 17 of the 24 games of the 2019-20 season, including 12 straight to open the season. After averaging 1.8 points and 0.8 rebounds per game over her first three seasons, Jensen-Baker is averaging 12.3 points and 4.4 rebounds per game as a senior. Jensen-Baker has scored 20-plus points in three games, including a career-high 32 points against North Texas (Dec. 16), and recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 11 rebounds against Dixie State (Dec. 2).

SECOND QUARTER BURST
Utah State has outscored its conference opponents, 184-175, during the second quarter in league play, and has outscored opponents in eight Mountain West games this season.

CONSISTENT SCORERS
The Aggies have had at least three players score in double figures in all but eight of Utah State's games this season. Senior forward Hailey Bassett (13.5 ppg) has scored in double figures in 20 games, senior guard Lindsey Jensen-Baker (12.3 ppg) has scored in double figures in 17, sophomore guard Steph Gorman (11.3 ppg) has scored in double figures in 14 and senior forward Marlene Aniambossou (9.0 ppg) has scored in double figures in 11. 

CRASHING THE BOARDS
Four Aggies are averaging at least 4.0 rebounds per game in senior forward Hailey Bassett (5.5 rpg), senior forward Marlene Aniambossou (5.3 rpg), senior guard Lindsey Jensen-Baker (4.4 rpg) and sophomore guard/forward Taylor Franson (4.3 rpg).

CRASHING THE BOARDS - PART II
Utah State has collected 269 offensive boards on the season, and has capitalized on the second-chance opportunities for 255 points compared to opposition's 244. The Aggies are led on the offensive glass by senior forward Marlene Aniambossou (2.5 orpg), redshirt sophomore guard/forward Taylor Franson (2.0 orpg), senior forward Hailey Bassett (1.6 orpg) and senior guard Lindsey Jensen-Baker (1.6 orpg).
