Final Results

ST. GEORGE, Utah – Utah State's golf team shot a final round 2-under 286 and finished with a 3-under-par 573 (287-286) to win the Southern Utah-hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational held here at the par-72, 6,900-yard Sunbrook Golf Club.
 
Overall, it is Utah State's first tournament win since Oct. 17, 2017, when it claimed the tournament title at the Cal State Northridge-hosted Bill Cullum Invitational. It is also the first time USU has won the Southern Utah Invitational, an event that is now in its 16th year.
 
Utah State, who had four golfers finish in the top 20, posted a three-shot win over second place Southern Utah, who finished with an even-par 576 (290-286). The Aggies sat in second place in the 12-team field following its opening round of 1-under 287, before tying for the team low round on Tuesday with its 2-under 286.
 
Individually, Utah State sophomore Cameron Tucker finished the tournament in fifth place with a 2-under 142 (67-75), for his best-ever tournament finish and best-ever under-par finish. It is Tucker's second under-par finish this fall and his career, not to mention his first-ever top-10 finish and second-ever top-20 placing. Tucker, who began the tournament with a career-low 67, has now posted three rounds in the 60s and five rounds under par in his career.
 
For Utah State, Tucker's fifth-place finish is the Aggies' highest since current junior Andy Hess tied for fifth at last year's Southern Utah Invitational.
 
Freshman Gabe Hunter also finished in the top 10 for Utah State as he shot an even-par 72 during his final round to finish sixth overall with a 1-under 143 (71-72) for his best-ever tournament. For Hunter, it is his first-career top-10 or top-20 placing to go along with his first-career under-par finish. Hunter also notched his first round under-par when he carded a 1-under 71 during his first 18 holes.
 
Other Aggie finishers included Hess (75-71) and junior Colten Cordingley (74-72), who both tied for 17th place at 2-over 146, while senior Chase Lansford tied for 26th place at 3-over 147 (76-71). For Hess, it was his ninth career top-20 finish, while Cordingley now has six top-20 placings in his career. Additionally, Hess' 1-under 71 was his 18th round under par in his career, while Lansford's 1-under 71 was the 23rd round under par in his career.
 
Redshirt freshman Cooper Wayment also competed for Utah State, as an individual, and tied for 69th at 14-over 158 (82-76) in his first-career tournament.
 
Utah State will return to action on Friday, March 6, when it travels to Boulder City, Nev., to compete in the South Dakota State-hosted Jackrabbit Invitational.
