SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Utah State men's tennis (3-11) lost, 5-2, in a road match to Santa Clara (5-7) on Wednesday.

Santa Clara won the doubles point after freshman Mann Shah and senior Vasileios Iliopoulos defeated junior Felipe Acosta and freshman Javier Ruiz, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot. Senior Jesus Tapiador Barajas and sophomore Santiago Hinojosa then clinched the point for the Broncos with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot against senior Sergiu Bucur and freshman Arvid Hjalte. Freshmen Christian Holmes and Roko Savin were trailing, 5-4, at the No. 3 position, but the match was left unfinished due to Santa Clara earning the doubles point.

In singles play, Barajas earned the next point for Santa Clara with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Acosta at the No. 1 spot. Hinojosa then defeated Holmes, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Arthur Neuhaus clinched the Broncos win with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot over Hjalte. 

The teams played out the remaining singles matches with Iliopoulos defeating Ruiz, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot. Bucur put the Aggies on the board with a 7-6 (9), 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot against Shah. Savin finished the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 win at the No. 6 spot against freshman Ryan Ali.

Utah State will conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule when the Aggies take on Cal Poly (4-6) on the road on Friday, March 13, at 1 p.m. (MT).
