LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis (3-7) begins a five-match road trip in California this weekend as the Aggies take on UC Santa Barbara (5-9) on Friday, March 6, at 2:30 p.m. (MT), and Drake (3-14) on Sunday, March 8, at 9 a.m. (MT) in Santa Barbara, Calif. USU will then take on Loyola Marymount (3-5) in Los Angeles, Calif., on Monday, March 9, at noon (MT).
Live stats and a live stream are not available for Friday and Sunday's matches, but live stats are available for Monday's match against Loyola Marymount. The live stats link will be available on the Utah State men's tennis social media pages, and on the USU Athletics website.
UC Santa Barbara enters Friday's contest with a 5-9 record. The Gauchos are led in singles by senior Joseph Guillin, who ranks No. 26 in the nation with a 9-4 mark. In doubles, Guillin and sophomore Alejandro Vedri lead UC Santa Barbara with an 8-5 record. Marty Davis is in his 21st season as the head coach at UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos lead the Aggies in the all-time series, 10-1, but the Aggies won the last meeting, 4-2 (Feb. 18, 2019).
Drake holds a 3-14 record and has lost four of its last five contests. The Bulldogs are led in singles by freshman Oliver Johansson with a 7-5 mark at the Nos. 1 through 4 spots. Three pairs of Drake duos have recorded four wins in doubles play. Davidson Kozlowski is in his eighth season as the head coach of Drake. The Bulldogs lead the Aggies in the all-time series, 2-0.
Loyola Marymount has a 3-5 record and has lost each of its last four matches. In singles play, the Lions are led by redshirt junior Lucas Moreno and junior Diego Nava who each have a 3-1 mark. Nava and sophomore Thien Nguyen lead the team in doubles with a 3-1 record at the No. 1 spot. Tom Lloyd is in his seventh season as the head coach of Loyola Marymount. All-time, the Aggies are 6-3 against the Lions.
USU enters the road trip with a 3-7 record and is coming off a 6-1 victory over Weber State on Feb. 28. Two Aggies have recorded five wins in singles as senior
Sergiu Bucur has a 5-5 record with all five wins at the No. 2 spot, and freshman
Arvid Hjalte has a 5-3 singles mark, with wins at the Nos. 4 and 5 spots. In doubles, Utah State is led by junior
Felipe Acosta and freshman
Javier Ruiz with a 4-6 record.
