MBB NOTES - Utah State Looks to Continue Winning Streak Against CSU

Aggies and Rams will meet for two-game set beginning on Tuesday night

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball (11-3, 8-0) continues Mountain West play this week with a pair of home games against Colorado State (10-2, 7-1) on Tuesday, Jan. 19, and Thursday, Jan. 21.

Opening Tips
• Utah State is undefeated in Mountain West play for the first time in school history, and is off to its best start in league play since the 2010-11 season, when the Aggies opened their WAC season 11-0.

• Utah State is 35-9 in MW play under head coach Craig Smith and is a perfect 4-0 against CSU during Smith's tenure Overall, Utah State leads the series 64-39, including a 19-8 advantage on Logan. The Aggies have won each of the last five.

• Utah State has the best home record of any team in the Mountain West over the last three years, going 20-2 in league play during head coach Craig Smith's watch. Overall, USU has won 14 of its last 15 league contests and 17 of its last 18 against Mountain West opponents.

• Utah State's 10-game winning streak is tied for the longest for the Aggies under head coach Craig Smith, tying a 10-game winning streak during the 2018-19 season. The streak is the eighth-longest in the nation.

• Utah State has outrebounded every opponent this season and is 63-11 under Smith when winning the battle of the boards. The Aggies lead the MW and are fifth in the nation with a plus-11.6 rebounding margin. The Aggies have pulled down double-digit offensive boards in all but three games this season.

• Utah State has held its last seven opponents to under 60 points (52 vs. SJSU, 48 vs. AFA, 53 vs. AFA, 45 vs. UNM, 46 vs. UNM, 45 vs. SDSU, 59 vs. SDSU). The last time USU accomplished that feat was during the 2003-04 season, holding nine straight Big West opponents to less than 60 points.

• Redshirt junior guard Marco Anthony, junior forward Justin Bean and junior center Neemias Queta are the only set of teammates in the Mountain West each averaging more than 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

• Queta is the only player in America leading his team in every major statistical category per game: points (12.2), rebounds (9.4), assists (3.1), blocks (2.9) and steals (1.4). Queta is one of two players in the NCAA leading his team in totals in every major statistical category (Anthony Tarke, Coppin State).

• Queta is one of only three players in the nation over the last 25 years to average more than 11 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game, joining Tim Duncan (Wake Forest, 1996-97) and Dominic McGuire (Fresno State, 2006-07).

• Queta is sixth in the nation with 34 total blocks, which is as much or more than 219 other teams in the nation. Queta's   average of 2.9 blocks per game is the best in school history and ranks No. 15 in the nation.

Sir Edmund Hillary Aggies
• Utah State is atop the Mountain West overall in scoring defense (59.3), defensive field goal percentage (.378), rebounding (41.5), opponent's rebounding (29.9), defensive rebounds (28.9), rebounding margin (11.6), blocks (4.93) and assists (15.86).

• Utah State is also atop the MW in league play in scoring defense (51.3), scoring margin (27.1), defensive field goal percentage (.333), defensive 3-point field goal percentage (.255), rebounding (44.0), offensive rebounds (13.3), defensive rebounds (30.8), rebounding margin (13.9), blocks (6.38), assists (18.5) and steals (7.38).

• Utah State has opened the MW season with a perfect 8-0 record, marking the best start for the Aggies in league play since the 2010-11 season when USU began 11-0 in the WAC.

• Head coach Craig Smith is the only current head coach in the league with a winning record against every other MW foe.

Going Streaking
• Utah State's 10-game winning streak is tied for the longest streak during head coach Craig Smith's tenure. USU also posted a 10-game winning streak during the 2018-19 season.

• During its recent 10-game winning streak, USU is averaging 78.0 points per game and shooting 47.8 percent (295-of-617) from the floor and 36.0 percent (72-of-200) from behind the 3-point line. Utah State's opponents are averaging 52.4 points per game and shooting 34.4 percent (189-of-549) from the floor and 27.1 percent (59-of-218) from behind the arc.

• USU is also dominating the glass, pulling down 43.2 rebounds per game to the oppositions' 29.5 rebounds per game. The Aggies have also moved the ball extremely well, averaging close to 18 assists per game.

Scoring Balance
• Utah State is one of only three teams in the nation averaging more than 75 points per game without an individual player averaging more than 13.0 points per game (UC Irvine, Tennessee).

• Utah State is second in the MW in scoring offense (78.4) in league play despite having only one player in the top-20 in scoring (Neemias Queta, 11.9, 20th).
