FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Utah State women's basketball (4-6, 2-3 MW) was held to a season-low 59 points as it fell on the road to Colorado State (9-2, 5-2 MW), 90-59, Tuesday evening inside Moby Arena.
The Aggies held a 21-18 lead after the first quarter, shooting 45.0 percent (9-of-20) from the field early on. Colorado State found its rhythm, however, and went on to outscore Utah State 72-38 the rest of the way. Colorado State's 90 points was the most points allowed by USU this season, and was the most points scored by CSU in conference play. Utah State was held to a season-low 34 rebounds.
Nine different players scored for Utah State, led by junior forward Bre Mathews who had 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 shooting at the charity stripe. Freshman guard/forward Halle Nelson and junior guard Paris Williams each had career-high scoring nights, going for nine and seven points, respectively.
The Rams were led by graduate forward Karly Murphy who finished with a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds, both of which were game-highs.
As a team, Utah State shot 33.3 percent (23-of-69) from the field, 15.8 percent (3-of-19) from 3-point range and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line. Colorado State shot 44.7 percent (34-of-76) from the field, while shooting 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from the 3-point line and 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the charity stripe.
The Aggies now remain in Fort Collins for the second part of the two-game series against Colorado State on Friday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network, and live stats will be available via Sidearm.
