LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball has announced its 2021 competition schedule, featuring three preseason tournaments, as well as games against four in-state rivals and a full slate of Mountain West meetings. .
Utah State will play against teams from six different conferences in 2021. The Aggies will face just one first-time opponent this season in UC San Diego, as the Tritons are in their first year of a four-year transition to Division I.
The Aggies will open the season at the Titan Classic, hosted by Cal State Fullerton, Feb. 12-13. This marks the fifth year in a row USU has played in this season-opening tournament. There, USU will play Oregon State, along with three contests against the host-Titans.
Utah State will then play back-to-back weekends in St. George, Utah, for its last two tournaments. The Dixie State Classic will be held at the Canyons Softball Complex, Feb. 19-21. There, USU will play games against BYU, Utah Valley, Montana, Washington and Dixie State. Washington ended the shortened 2019 season ranked second nationally. The following weekend, Dixie State will host a tournament, Feb. 26-27. Utah State will play two games against Northern Colorado, along with single contests against Weber State and the host-Trailblazers.
USU will play an additional 10 non-conference games throughout the season. The Aggies will play doubleheaders at San Diego and UC San Diego on March 5 and March 6, respectively. USU will also play at Weber State on March 23 and host Dixie State on May 9. Utah State also has home-and-home series scheduled with Utah Valley and BYU. The Aggies will take on the Wolverines in Logan on March 30, and in Orem on April 21. The team will play the Cougars in Provo first on April 6, with the return game in Logan set for May 11.
Mountain West play will feature three-game series against each league opponent. This season, the conference series layout has changed to a doubleheader on Saturday, with a single game on Sunday. Utah State will open the conference season against Fresno State (March 27-28). The Aggies are also set to host UNLV (April 10-11), San Diego State (April 24-25) and New Mexico (May 14-15). Road conference match-ups include Nevada (April 2-3), Boise State (April 17-18) and San José State (May 1-2).
The Mountain West does not sponsor a conference softball tournament. Qualifying teams will begin postseason play at NCAA Regionals the weekend of May 20-23, with Super Regionals following, May 27-30. Both rounds will be played at regional sites across the country. The 2021 Women's College World Series will be played June 3-9, at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
