LOGAN, Utah – Utah State placekicker
Connor Coles was selected as one of three Lou Groza Award "Stars of the Week," it was announced Monday by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
The Lou Groza Award, which is presented by the Orange Bowl, recognizes three of the top Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) kickers each week. In addition to Coles, California's Dario Longhetto and West Virgnia's Casey Legg earned the honor for this past weekend's games.
In Utah State's 26-24 Homecoming win over Colorado State last Friday night on Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium, Coles scored a career-high 14 points as he was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points. The senior from Bozeman, Montana, connected on field goals from 45, 30, 42 and 34 yards out, respectively.
Coles' field goals marked the final 12 points the Aggies would score, turning a tie game into a nine-point lead with 5:03 to go in the game. His four field goals made and attempted were career highs.
Coles and the Aggies (5-2, 3-1 Mountain West) are back at Maverik Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m., as the Aggies host MW West Division-foe Hawai'i (4-4, 1-2).
