Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nevada --- Utah State volleyball saw its six-game winning streak come to an end in a 3-0 loss at UNLV on Saturday. It is only the second time this season USU has been swept in a match.
UNLV jumped out to a quick 13-6 lead in the first set. The Aggies battled back to a one-point deficit on multiple occasions but were unable to tie or retake the lead. A four-point Rebel run late in the set powered UNLV to a 25-22 first-set victory. The second set started as a back-and-forth affair before a four-point run gave UNLV an 11-7 lead. USU would not trim UNLV's lead to less than three for the remainder of the set as the Rebels won, 25-18.
In a do-or-die third set, Utah State jumped out to a 10-8 lead. The Rebels responded with a 10-1 run to take an 18-11 advantage which the Aggies were unable to recover from, losing the third set, 25-16, and the overall match, 3-0.
Freshman middle blocker Katie Langford was the only Aggie with a hitting percentage over .230 for the match having hit .333 with five kills, adding two blocks and two digs. As a team, the Aggies hit only .147, their fourth-lowest mark of the season.
Sophomore outside hitter Tatum Stall led the Aggies with nine total kills. Stall also tied for a team-high three blocks along with sophomore middle blocker Inka Mehtola. Sophomore libero Abby Peterson registered a team-best 14 digs on the afternoon with senior outside hitter Kristy Frank close behind with 13.
The loss drops the Aggies to 9-3 in Mountain West play and only a half game up on San José State for second place, pending the Spartans' match versus Nevada on Saturday night. Up next, Utah State returns home to host Air Force on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.
