LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's
Corinne Larsen and
Katie Langford were honored by the Mountain West this week, it was announced Monday by the conference office. Larsen was named the MW Defensive Player of the Week while Langford was named the MW Freshman of the Week.
For Larsen, it is the first time earning Player of the Week honors in her career. The senior from Sandy, Utah, totaled 12 blocks last week as the Aggies emerged victorious in two crucial conference matches versus Colorado State and Wyoming. Against CSU, Larsen had eight blocks to help USU defeat the Rams for the first time since 1982. Larsen followed up the performance by adding four blocks in Utah State's win over Wyoming, adding 10 kills and two digs as the Aggies secured their first regular season conference title since winning the WAC in 2012. With 133.0 blocks on the season, Larsen currently ranks second in the MW and 16th nationally.
It is also Langford's first time earning Freshman of the Week honors in her career. The native of Santa Clara, Utah, posted an identical stat line of eight kills on a .294 hitting percentage in both of USU's victories last week. Versus the Rams, Langford added five blocks and one assist to help the Aggies to the victory. Langford added two blocks and three digs in Utah State's five-set thriller over the Cowgirls.
After wrapping up the regular season, the Aggies are preparing for the Mountain West Tournament being held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada. Entering as the conference's second seed, USU will receive a first-round bye and advance into the semifinals. The Aggies will play the winner between third-seeded San Jose State and sixth-seeded Boise State on Thursday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m.
