SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota – Utah State men's basketball had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 94-75 loss against Iowa inside the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Saturday night. The loss was just the second for the Aggies this season when surpassing 70 points.
Graduate forward
Brandon Horvath led the Aggies with 18 points and was followed closely by senior forward
Justin Bean with 17. Utah State (8-4) finished the game shooting 49.0 percent (25-of-51) from the floor, 34.8 percent (8-of-23) from behind the 3-point line and 70.8 percent (17-of-24) at the free throw line.
Iowa (8-3) turned in 94 points, the most by an Aggie opponent this season, while shooting 54.7 percent (35-of-64) from the floor, also a season high by a Utah State opponent. The Hawkeyes also shot 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from behind the arc and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) at the free throw line.
The teams traded the lead over the opening 13 minutes, including a 31-30 advantage for the Aggies with 7:19 to play. The Hawkeyes countered with seven unanswered points and never trailed again for the rest of the game. A
Steven Ashworth triple with 2:34 to play in the half tied the game at 43-43, but Iowa closed the final two minutes with eight-straight points to take a 51-43 lead into the half.
The Hawkeye lead grew to as much as 29, before the Aggies finished the game on a 12-2 run over the final four minutes to put the score at 94-75 at the final whistle.
Utah State will close out its non-conference slate inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Tuesday, Dec. 21, hosting Portland State at 7 p.m.
