BOISE, Idaho – Utah State volleyball opened its weekend of competition Friday, falling to Boise State, 3-0.
The Broncos controlled the first two sets, posting wins of 25-16 and 25-19. The Aggies battled through the third set, pushing the Broncos to extra points before it ended in a 31-29 decision.

Bailey Downing had a team-high four blocks, while sophomore setter
Kalena Vaivai led with 32 assists.
Utah State led at least once in each set, but lost that lead early on in the first two. The Aggies tried to chip away at the Broncos' lead late in the second set with a pair of 3-0 runs. USU had its best performance of the night in the third set. Gaining momentum after a service ace to start the set, the Aggies hung with the Broncos throughout. Neither team led by more than two points until USU went up 20-17 on a 5-0 run. Boise State fought back, pushing the teams to extra points before ending the match on a block.
Overall, Utah State hit .124 (42-26-129) in the match, while Boise State hit .202 (42-17-124) on the night.
The Aggies and Broncos return to action on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m.
