BOISE, Idaho – Utah State volleyball (0-4, 0-4 MW) wrapped up the first road series of its season Saturday, falling to Boise State, 3-0.
The Broncos won the first two sets by 25-18 decisions, with the third set being the closest of the day at 25-22.
Junior outside hitter Kristy Frank led tall players with 11 kills in the match, but the Aggies had a very balanced attack throughout the day. Sophomore libero Grace DuBay recorded 15 digs, while sophomore setter Kalena Vaivai added 19 assists. Senior opposite side hitter Bailey Downing and junior middle blocker Corinne Larsen posted five blocks apiece.
Utah State scored first in all three sets Saturday, but struggled to find the momentum to put the offense together. The teams kept things tight early in the first and second sets before Boise State would jump out to a larger lead. The Broncos dominated the third set early on, but the Aggies pushed back with a 9-0 run late in the set. After trailing by 10, USU was able to pull within two points before Boise State could end the match.
Overall, Utah State hit .167 (36-18-34) in the match, while Boise State hit ..234 (40-14-35).
Utah State has its bye week next week, but will then head to Fresno State for a two-match conference series. The Aggies and Bulldogs will meet on Friday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. (MT), and on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m.
