LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis opened its two-match weekend Friday, falling to Denver, 6-1.

The Aggies picked up one win in doubles play, where redshirt freshman Jack Ninteman and sophomore Roko Savin defeated Mattia Ros and Peter Sallay, 6-3, at the No. 2 position. The Pioneers claimed the doubles point, however, with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. 

Fifth-year senior Sergiu Bucur earned the sole point for USU Friday, as he earned a three-set victory in the No. 1 position. After dropping the first set, 6-3, he bounced back to take quick wins of 6-2 and 6-1 in the second and third. Savin put up a fight in the No. 4 spot, battling to split tiebreaks in the first and second sets. In the final singles contest of the day, freshman Keanu Rigby pushed it to three sets, but ultimately fell in a super-tiebreak. With their losses at Nos. 2 and 5, respectively, senior Felipe Acosta and sophomore Javier Ruiz each suffered their first singles losses of the season.

The Aggies are back in action tomorrow, when they host Colorado Mesa at 11 a.m. In-person attendance is limited to a friends and family pass list, but the match will be streamed live on the USU Athletics YouTube and live stats and updates will be provided.
