CARLSBAD, Calif. – Utah State's golf team is in first place following the first two rounds of the UC San Diego Invitational on Monday at La Costa (Champions Course).
 
The Aggies lead the tournament at 17-over par, firing rounds of 299 and 294 for their 593 total. Southern Utah (306-294) and UC Santa Barbara (308-292) are tied for second at 24-over 600.
 
Utah State has a pair of golfers in the top five. Senior Colten Cordingley opened the day by shooting a 1-over 73 on the 7,151-yard course. He followed that with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon, leaving him at even-par 144 for the tournament and in a tie for second place.
 
Fellow senior Andy Hess is tied for fourth at 1-over 145. He carded rounds of 72 and 73, respectively. Hess currently leads the invitational with 27 pars, while Cordingley leads the way in par-5 scoring at 5-under (4.38 average) and is tied for first with nine birdies.
 
Senior Andy Hess and redshirt junior are tied for 26th at 4-over 148, while freshman Javier Vazquez is tied for 52nd at 16-over. Playing individually, junior Cameron Tucker is tied for 43rd at 12-over.
 
Fifth-year Chase Lansford is tied for 16th at 9-over 153 (78-75), freshman Javier Vazquez is tied for 25th at 11-over 155 (80-75) and redshirt junior Jesse Henderson is tied for 30th at 13-over 157 (76-81).
 
The final round of the UC San Diego Invitational will take place on Tuesday.
