FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Utah State volleyball (4-9, 4-9 MW) wrapped up its week of play Saturday, falling to Colorado State, 3-1.
The Aggies took the early lead with a 25-14 win in the first set. The Rams bounced back though, taking the next three (25-12, 25-13, 25-18) to win the match. USU's first set win marked its first over CSU since the 2014 season. The Rams had posted 11-straight sweeps over the Aggies prior to Saturday's contest. Two big runs highlighted Utah State's set, as the Aggies used a 6-0 run to take a big lead early on, then closed the set on another 6-0 run. Colorado State took control after that though, dominating the remaining three sets.
Freshman outside hitter
Tatum Stall recorded a team-high eight kills, while junior middle blockers
Corinne Larsen and
Autumn Spafford led the team hitting .333 apiece. Sophomore setter
Kalena Vaivai led with 15 kills and freshman libero
Abby Peterson recorded a team-best 15 digs. Larsen, Spafford and junior middle
Whitney Solosabal-Parks each had three block assists.
Overall, Utah State hit .096 (33-22-114) while Colorado State hit .291 (48-14-117) in the match.
Utah State wraps up the season next week, playing San Jose State at home on Thursday, April 1, at 6 p.m., then at New Mexico on Saturday, April 3.
