Utah State Volleyball Set for Final Matches of Season

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball (4-9, 4-9 MW) wraps up its 2020 season this week with a pair of Mountain West matches. The Aggies will host San Jose State (6-8, 6-8 MW) on Thursday, April 1, at 6 p.m., followed by a match at New Mexico (3-9, 3-9 MW) on Saturday, April 3, at 1 p.m.

Utah State and San José State's match will be played in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Fans will be permitted to attend Thursday's competition. Tickets are available at the USU Ticket Office, online at utahstateaggies.com or by calling 1 (888) USTATE-1. Each of this weekend's matches will be available for fans to watch live online via the Mountain West Network. Live stats will also be available through SIDEARM. Links to all options will be posted on the team's social media pages, and are all listed on the Utah State Athletics website.

The Utah State offense is led by junior outside hitter Kristy Frank, who is averaging 2.55 kills per set. Junior middle blocker Corinne Larsen is hitting a team-high .272 (104-37-246). Sophomore setter Kalena Vaivai is averaging 7.12 assists per set. Defensively, freshman libero/defensive specialist Abby Peterson has a team-best 3.69 digs per set, while junior middle blocker Autumn Spafford leads the team with 1.11 blocks per set. As a team, Utah State is hitting .155 (542-286-1654) on the year, averaging 13.71 digs and 2.23 blocks per set. 

San José State makes the trip to Logan with a 6-8 record, coming off wins over New Mexico (3-2) and San Diego State (3-0). Freshman middle blocker Allyson Alden leads the team hitting .361 (87-14-202) on the year, while junior middle Haylee Nelson is averaging a team-high 3.71 kills per set. Defensively, junior libero Sarah Smevog is averaging 3.62 digs per set, while sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Sugai leads the group with 1.00 blocks per set. As a team, San José State is hitting .225 (703-296-1812), averaging 14.31 digs and 1.44 blocks per set. 

New Mexico welcomes the Aggies with a 3-9 record, having lost its last four matches. The Lobos will host Colorado State on Thursday. Sophomore outside hitter Kaitylnn Biassou is leading the UNM attack, hitting .183 (149-74-410) and averaging 3.98 kills per set. Redshirt freshman outside hitter Uxue Guereca is leading the team with 3.41 digs per set, with junior middle blocker Avital Jaloba averaging a team-high 0.90 blocks per set. As a team, New Mexico is hitting .135 (447-246-1488) on the season, averaging 15.53 digs and 2.22 blocks per set.
