LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball (1-6, 1-6 MW) opened its two-match home series with UNLV (7-0, 7-0 MW) in a 3-0 loss Thursday.
UNLV took control early en route to the three-set sweep, posting wins of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-16.
Junior outside hitter Kristy Frank led all players with 14 kills, hitting .333 (14-4-30) in the match. Junior middle blocker Corinne Larsen also hit .333 (7-1-18) overall, hitting above .300 for the fourth match in a row. Freshman libero Abby Peterson tallied a team-high 16 digs, while sophomore setter Kalena Vaivai recorded 30 assists. Utah State only had four blocks in the match, with each credited to a different player.
Overall, Utah State hit a season-best .192 (35-15-104) while UNLV hit .308 (38-10-91). While the Aggies had their highest hitting percentage of the season, they were plagued by service errors, finishing the match with 13. UNLV dominated the block, putting up 14 total.
The Aggies and Rebels will take a day off before returning to action on Saturday, March 6, at 1 p.m. The match will be played in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, with 1,600 fans allowed to attend.
